This is my e30 build journal. This build is going to take awhile since I know nothing of cars. Feel free to ask or submit stuff via the buttons above. Cheers!
Hey man. Been meaning to respond to your message but had the most difficult time remembering my spring rates.
I was a dumb ass and got the stiffest off the the shelf springs that were offered by Jaze that I was immediately available. 16/18k rate and 5/4” length.
For a street car, these rates are ridiculous because my e30 had fallen apart. My visor’s screws fell off, my windshield’s rock chips are slowly splitting, my battery tray for the trunk is beat up from the battery bouncing around even with a strap, and my subframe motor mount ears are kinda bent.
If you wanna be super low, be prepared to really drive carefully with this setup. That was obviously not my forte since my e30 kinda fell apart and I went through so many pans. Lol
If it’s really just lowness that you want, I’d recommend just going with Ground controls or BCs which are cheaper though I don’t think their warranties are as great as BWS’ 5 year one.
But if you’re going to track with this setup, hell fucking yeah. I love how the springs are digressive than progressive. The faster the shocks compress the rate decreases which helps with turn-ins and shifting momentum.
Or euros, cars, or automotive?
I always tend to overlook simple shit. Got the e30 started earlier. Found out that it was the fusible link. I should’ve known because I couldn’t get codes from the DME.
Can’t drive it since it’s not registered or insured anymore. It still needs a rebuild or a swap though.
for now. Car’s parked due to starting/dying issues. Not really putting any time into it since the engine’s gonna die soon anyway and the wiring harness on it is a piece of shit thanks to the PO. So I might just yank the harness along with the engine soon.
Either I mastered driving this car while being low static or my luck is fucking stupid (more likely) because I haven’t smashed my pan since parking the car. Hence: my spare m42 oil pans will be for sale soon. Lol
Story time before I leave:
When I first started this tumblr to log my e30’s journey, I told myself I’d make the car as fast as the amount of followers as It would get. That was me thinking nobody else knew what an e30 was and would be following. False. Followers soon started showing up, trickling in and then later flooding my feed. 5 years later, in order for me to even reach that goal, I would need to figure out how to maintain traction firstly and second would be how to fund a slightly insane build. Lol
What else should I post
Was the head pressure tested? You may have hairline cracks that only open up when hitting operating temperature which in turn lets water/coolant into the combustion chamber.
White smoke usually means the above. If the smoke smells sweet, it further adds on to the above theory. Other than those possible hairline cracks, your head might be warped would also give you white smoke.
Also, I’m not a mechanic. You’re better off asking google anyway. lol
And.. there’s a procedure for completely tightening your head bolts after installation. I don’t remember exactly from the Bentley manual but you have to re tighten 2(?) more times after.
I should start reading up because my e28 has an m20. Lol
